Muzaffarabad: The polling process for the local body elections in Azad Kashmir is going on after 31 years.
In the first phase of the local body elections of Azad Kashmir, elections are being held in Muzaffarabad division for which the polling process will continue till 5 pm without any break.
Muzaffarabad Division consists of 3 districts which include Muzaffarabad District, Neelum District and Jhelum Valley District. One thousand 643 candidates are participating in the election in Muzaffarabad district where 15 candidates have been elected unopposed.
The total number of polling stations in Muzaffarabad district is 791, out of which 199 stations are classified as sensitive and 142 stations as highly sensitive. The total number of voters in Muzaffarabad is 4 lakh 8 thousand 868, including 616 migrant voters. In Muzaffarabad, the number of male voters is 219 thousand 173 while the number of female voters is 189 thousand 695.
A fight took place during polling at Lachhrat Khateli polling station in Muzaffarabad, in which 5 people were injured who were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital. Polling was stopped at Khateli polling station after the fight. The fight took place between Tehreek-e-Insaf and independent candidate supporters.
529 candidates are participating in the election in Neelam district where one candidate has been elected unopposed. The number of voters in Neelam district is 129 thousand 298, in which the number of male voters is 69 thousand 475 and the number of female voters is 59 thousand 823. 243 polling stations have been set up in Neelam district.
In Jhelum Valley district, 544 candidates are participating in the election and 4 candidates have been elected unopposed. The number of voters in Jhelum Valley is 154 thousand 774, including 16 migrant voters.
In Jhelum Valley district, the number of male voters is 83 thousand 545 and the number of female voters is 71 thousand 229. 276 polling stations have been set up in Jhelum Valley district.
