(Report: 09/09/2023): I am here in Chefchaouen, Morocco, where a powerful earthquake has killed more than 1,000 people. The earthquake struck on Saturday morning, local time, and had a magnitude of 6.5. It was felt in several other countries in the region, including Algeria, Tunisia, and Spain.
The earthquake has caused widespread damage in Chefchaouen and surrounding areas. Many buildings have collapsed, and there are reports of landslides and flooding. Rescue workers are working to reach survivors, but the difficult terrain and poor infrastructure are hampering their efforts.
