Greg Barr-Clay re-elected as ICC chairman unopposed

Greg Barr-Clay has been re-elected unopposed as ICC chairman while Jay Shah will head the influential Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.

Greg Barclay has been re-elected unopposed as the ICC chairman for a two-year term after his rival Zimbabwean cricket chairman Tongwa Mikulani stepped down.

Greg Barclay will now serve as ICC chairman until 2024.

Greg Barclay had the support of 16 strong votes and Tongua Mikulani had 6 votes, despite knowing that Tongua Mikulani, a long-time director on the ICC board, had decided to contest the election.

Tongwa Mikulani had the support of some small bloc of the Asian bloc but the BCCI, as usual, had a huge influence in the voting process.

According to a Cricinfo report, the BCCI wanted to secure an important seat in the influential Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee, which it succeeded in doing.

It should be noted that the influential Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee not only decides on the budget allocation for ICC events but also distributes the overall revenue among the pool member countries along with its maintenance.
