Rojhan: Former Caretaker Prime Minister Mir Balkh Sher Mazari has passed away. He was 94 years old. He was ill for a long time.
The statement issued by the spokesperson Babar Mazari said that the former caretaker prime minister was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Lahore for the past three weeks.
Mir Balkh Sher Mazari was born on July 8, 1928 in Kot Karam Khan to Mir Murad Bakhsh Khan Mazari, the 21st Sardar and 6th of the Mazari tribe. After completing his education from Aitchison College in 1945, Balkh Sher Mazari settled in Rojhan Mazari. In 1951, he joined active politics, on several occasions he was elected Member of National Assembly and Member of Provincial Assembly.
Along with Mir Balkh Sher Mazari, his brother Sardar Sherbaz Khan Mazari also played a prominent role in the politics of Pakistan.
On 19 April 1993, the then President Ghulam Ishaq Khan used his presidential powers to dismiss the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif through the Eighth Amendment to resolve the power struggle in Pakistan, after which he appointed Mir Balkh Sher. Mazari was appointed caretaker prime minister.
Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the death of former Caretaker Prime Minister Mir Balkh Sher Mazari and said that the services of Mir Balkh Sher Mazari will be remembered for the country and the nation.
The central president of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that the deceased was the chief of the Mazari tribe, he played an important role in the country’s politics. He said that Mir Balkh Sher Mazari was a prominent figure in the politics of Pakistan and Balochistan province.
