Demand to remove Mahatma Gandhi’s image from Indian currency notes
Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson has demanded the removal of his great-grandfather’s image from Indian currency notes.
According to media reports, Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in India, has said that he would be grateful to the government if Gandhi’s image is removed from Indian currency notes.
Talking to reporters in Vadodara district of Gujarat, Tushar Gandhi said that the notes bear only the image of Gandhiji and not Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or his spirit nor do they represent his ideology.
He said that ‘Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an ideology, this ideology should remain eternal, we don’t need his picture on currency notes’.
